Frequently Asked Questions – Kids Clear™ & Blessed Earth® Detox Clay Baths

Everything you need to know about using our pure, effective sodium bentonite clay detox baths—whether you're using Kids Clear™ for children or Blessed Earth® for adults.

💧 How Do Bentonite Clay Baths Work?

When mixed with warm water, bentonite clay forms a mineral-rich bath that helps draw out toxins, heavy metals, and environmental impurities through the skin. The warmth opens pores, while the clay’s natural negative ionic charge binds to positively charged toxins, facilitating safe elimination.

🛁 What Materials Will I Need?

  • Non-metallic stirring utensil (wood or plastic preferred)
  • Timer or clock
  • Electrolyte drink for after the bath (e.g., Emergen-C®, Pedialyte, or ConcenTrace® drops)

⚖️ How Much Clay Should I Use?

  • Kids: ½ to 1½  cup per bath (depending on weight)
  • Adults: ½ to 2 cups per bath (depending on sensitivity or toxic load)

Adjust according to age, weight, and sensitivity. Detailed usage guidance is on the back of the bag of clay.

  • Kids: Once every 5–7 days
  • Adults: 1 to 2 times per week (allow at least 72 hours between sessions)

How Many Clay Baths Are Needed for Detoxification?

Goal Recommended Frequency Typical Duration
Light detox / wellness 1–2 baths/week Ongoing
Moderate detox 2–3 baths/week 4–6 weeks
Deep detox (mold, metals) 3–4 baths/week 6–8+ weeks
Pediatric support 1 bath/week → up to 3/week 4–8+ weeks

🔄 What Should I Do After the Bath?

It’s common to feel tired after a bath. Rinse thoroughly in the shower. Drink an electrolyte-rich beverage either during or just after the bath; or put some mineral drops into an 8 oz glass of water. Moisturize the skin to avoid dryness, especially in children.

♨️ What’s the Ideal Water Temperature?

Use warm, not hot, water—ideally no hotter than 103°F (39.4°C). It should feel like a warm/hot (but not lukewarm) bath.

🥄 How Do I Mix the Clay?

  1. Begin filling the tub with hot water.
  2. Slowly sprinkle in the clay under the faucet just above the water level (like powdered sugar).
  3. Stir briskly with a non-metal whisk or hand to break clumps.
  4. When you're in the tub you can continue mixing the water gently with your hands to further disperse any clumps of clay. Usually after a few minutes, the clay will disperse on it's own.
  5. Adjust water temperature as needed.

🚽 Are Clay Baths Safe for Septic Systems?

It's recommended to use a foot bath if you have a septic system. However, it is safe to use for septic systems if you follow the instructions on the bag. Avoid allowing clumps of clay to go down your drain.

Is This Clay Safe for My Bathtub?

Yes - both clay products are safe when used properly. Follow these precautions:

  • Use plenty of water: Always fully dissolve clay in water.
  • Agitate water while draining to prevent settling.
  • Rinse tub after each use. Use a non-metallic scrubber for older tubs.
  • Avoid hot tubs/jetted tubs unless approved by a plumber.

⚠️ Safety Precautions & Detox Reactions

Common mild reactions: fatigue, nausea, rash, or light headedness. Rarely, vomiting may occur.

Do NOT use clay baths if:

  • Person is currently ill or has the flu
  • Has a heart or blood pressure condition (without doctor’s guidance)
  • Is on prescription medications not cleared by a physician
  • Pregnant or nursing

Do not ingest the clay. Consult your healthcare provider before starting any detox routine.

🧲 Do I Need to Replenish Minerals After a Clay Bath?

Yes. Sodium bentonite clay may also bind beneficial minerals. Support your recovery post-bath:

Recommended Replenishment Tips:

  • Hydrate: Drink clean, mineral-rich water.
  • Electrolytes: Emergen-C®, Pedialyte, coconut water, or trace minerals like ConcenTrace Mineral Drops.
  • Mineral-rich foods: Bone broth, sea salt, leafy greens, bananas.

Children are especially sensitive to mineral depletion, so always replenish post-bath.

🌿 Other Uses for Sodium Bentonite Clay

  • Facial masks: Draws out impurities and reduces skin blemishes.
  • Oral health: Found in natural toothpastes and mouth rinses.
  • Skin poultices: Helps bug bites, rashes, and burns.
  • Natural deodorant: Absorbs moisture and odor naturally.

Important: Always use USP-grade or food-grade clay for personal care—not industrial-grade bentonite.
